Honor Dances — Parent Dances & More
$175
per dance · adds to any package · one focused lesson is usually all it takes
Some of the best moments at a wedding aren’t the first dance at all. Vanessa also coaches honor dances — a father-daughter or mother-son dance, a dance with a stepparent, grandparent, or sibling, or a moment with anyone who helped you get here. From a simple, confident sway to a sweet choreographed moment that has the whole room reaching for tissues.
Often the person you’re dancing with is the most nervous one at the reception; a single lesson turns dread into a moment you’ll both keep forever.
Works with every package — including The Pro: keep all your lessons for your first dance and give each honor dance its own focused hour.
Book it like anything else — just check the Honor Dance box in the booking form. Gift certificates work for these too (a favorite surprise from thoughtful couples).

Most couples who walk into the studio have zero dance experience — and plenty arrive skeptical. Here’s how that usually ends:
“Our first dance turned out so good it’s hard to believe we are both awkward people who do not dance! She is kind and patient, and breaks down steps in such a consumable and understandable way — and makes it fun!”
— Renee D.
“Within three lessons, my fiancé and I went from dreading our first dance to feeling pumped and confident with a choreographed plan. She was so kind and never made us feel awkward or uncomfortable.”
— Honor H.
First Dance Lessons in Austin
Your first dance is one of the few moments at your wedding when every eye — and every camera — is on the two of you. Vanessa’s private first dance lessons turn that pressure into something you’ll actually look forward to. You’ll work one-on-one at her North Austin studio on custom choreography built around your song, at a pace that meets you exactly where you are — most couples walk in with zero dance experience.
Every package above takes your first dance from first step to final dip, and any of them can include an honor dance — father-daughter, mother-son, or another special dance — as an optional $175 add-on. Out of town or short on time? The same coaching works over Zoom with live virtual wedding dance lessons — and if you’re shopping for someone else, a wedding dance lesson gift certificate covers any package.
FAQ - In-Person Wedding Dance Lessons
How many wedding dance lessons do we need?
The number of wedding dance lessons you need depends on your goals and timeline.
The 5-lesson package is the most popular choice and recommended minimum starting point.
For couples who want the most complete experience, Vanessa recommends the 10-lesson package. With 10 lessons, there’s room to do it all — more time to refine and perfect your first dance, build social dancing skills you’ll use all night at the reception, and even work in honor dances if needed. It’s also the best value, with the lowest per-lesson rate of any package. Read through the package descriptions to find the best match, or Reach out to Vanessa directly via the contact form if you’d like help choosing.
Do we need any dance experience for in person wedding dance lessons?
Absolutely not! No dance experience needed. Vanessa specializes in teaching complete beginners. Most of her couples have never danced before, and they walk away with a choreographed first dance they are proud of.
How far in advance should we book wedding dance lessons?
We recommend booking at least 2–3 months before your wedding, and planning to complete your final lesson about three to four weeks out. That buffer is intentional: the last stretch before a wedding gets hectic, and by then your choreography should already be set — leaving nothing new to learn, just easy practice runs together that build polish and confidence. Vanessa works with tighter timelines too, so reach out regardless of when your wedding is.
What wedding dance styles does Vanessa teach?
The dance style is dictated by the song you choose. From there, Vanessa choreographs accordingly. Popular styles include foxy (a modernized version of the foxtrot), two-step, salsa, swing, and waltz, among others. If your song calls for a blend of styles or something unexpected, even better.
What should we wear to our dance lessons?
Plan to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.
For shoes, if you already have the pair you’ll be wearing on your wedding day, feel free to bring them to class. If you’re not ready to wear them yet, sneakers work perfectly for the first lesson or two.
If you haven’t picked out your bridal shoes yet, Vanessa recommends checking out:

Is your wedding dance studio a private space?
Yes! It is truly a private, dedicated, and climate controlled space. Every lesson takes place in Vanessa’s private boutique studio in North Austin, reserved exclusively for you and your partner.
There are no other couples in the room, no shared sound system, and no instructor splitting their attention between multiple students. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, the space and Vanessa’s full focus are entirely yours.
This is something that matters more than couples often realize going in. At larger dance studios, it’s common for several couples to share one space, one sound system, and one instructor’s divided attention. At Lessons with Vanessa, every lesson is built around you and your learning experience.
What can we expect in our first wedding dance lesson?
Every first lesson starts the same way. Vanessa welcomes you in, you sit down together for a few minutes to make sure everyone is aligned on the details, and then you get to work.
Before you ever set foot in the studio, Vanessa has already listened to your song and prepared your choreography. She’ll check in to make sure you love the direction, see if you’d like any adjustments, and from there you begin learning it together.
Couples almost always walk in nervous and walk out surprised: by how easy it was, how much fun they had, and how excited they are for the next lesson.
How long are the lessons?
Each lesson is 60 minutes. This is worth knowing because private lesson times can vary from studio to studio — some run 40 or 50 minutes. With Vanessa, you always get the full hour, every time.
Where are the lessons held in Austin?
Lessons take place in Vanessa’s private studio in North Austin.
When are lessons available?
Lessons are one hour each and by appointment. Vanessa currently teaches:
- Sundays: 11:00 am – 3:45 pm
- Mondays & Tuesdays: 10:45 am – 1:00 pm, then 4:45 – 9:30 pm
- Wednesdays: 10:45 am – 1:00 pm, then 4:00 – 8:45 pm
Because every lesson is fully private, spots are limited, and Sundays tend to fill first — especially during wedding season. Worried about fitting lessons into a busy schedule, or is your wedding coming up fast? Reach out — Vanessa loves helping couples make it work and is known for working wonders on tight timelines.
What’s your rescheduling and cancellation policy?
Life happens, and Vanessa is always glad to reschedule when she can — she just asks for at least 24 hours’ notice. More than 24 hours out? You can reschedule yourself anytime using the reschedule link at the bottom of your calendar invite.
Because each lesson is a private, reserved time slot, lessons rescheduled or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice — along with no-shows — are forfeited. And since lessons begin and end at their scheduled times, arriving late won’t extend your lesson.
One important exception: if you’re feeling sick, please stay home. If you wake up under the weather on lesson day, just text or email her as soon as you can and she’ll help you reschedule. The same goes for a genuine emergency — reach out as soon as you’re able, and she’ll do her best to work with you.
Do lesson packages expire? Can we upgrade later?
Your package is good all the way through your wedding day. And if your wedding date moves, your package moves with it, no charge — postponements happen, and Vanessa will simply work with your new timeline.
Not sure which package to choose? Vanessa is happy to help you pick the right fit from the start — and if you’d like more time together later, you can always upgrade to a larger package by paying the difference.
What if we haven't chosen our song yet?
No problem at all! Vanessa created a Spotify playlist to get you inspired: have a listen to “First Dance Favorites”. Still need help narrowing it down? Reach out — Vanessa is happy to help you choose a song that fits you. And once you’ve picked, just let her know your choice. She’ll start building your choreography around it before you even meet for your first lesson.
How much should we practice between lessons?
Short and frequent wins. Vanessa recommends practice sessions of just 5–10 minutes, daily or every other day — far better for learning and retention than one or two long sessions squeezed in between lessons. Learning a dance works like learning an instrument or a new sport: it’s all about reps and muscle memory. And that’s the real payoff — once the steps settle into muscle memory, your mind is more free on the dance floor, so on your wedding day you’re present and enjoying the moment with each other instead of stuck in your head counting steps. You won’t be practicing from memory alone, either: every package includes a video recap of your lesson.
How does payment work? When is it due?
Simple and upfront: a $100 deposit via Venmo reserves your spot — that’s the same for every package. Vanessa then sends your dance contract and a link to schedule your lessons on her calendar, at times that work for you. The remaining balance is due at the end of your first lesson, payable by cash, Venmo, or PayPal.

What Happens Next?
- Vanessa reads your message personally. Every inquiry goes straight to Vanessa herself, and she typically replies within 24 hours (often much sooner).
- You’ll figure out the details together. She’ll answer your questions, check in about your first-dance song (and share a Spotify playlist for inspiration if you’re still deciding), and help you choose the right package if you’d like some guidance. Prefer a quick phone call instead? Just say the word.
- You reserve your spot. When you’re ready to move forward, a $100 deposit via Venmo secures your place. Vanessa then sends your dance contract and a link so you can schedule your lessons on her calendar, at times that work for you.
And here’s the part couples love: before you ever set foot in the studio, Vanessa has already listened to your song and comes in with a plan built around it. No standing around while moves get invented on the spot — you just show up ready to have a good time.
